The mission of GrowSmart Maine is to build lasting prosperity without sacrificing the quality of life that defines Maine. The Maine Smart Growth Awards are a reflection of this mission.
The Maine Smart Growth Awards recognize the activities that contribute to smart growth and serve as real life illustrations of the benefits these changes can bring to the community, welcoming growth, combined with historic preservation and the natural beauty of the area. The awards showcase the kind of projects, plans, policies, and people who support smart growth, whether it’s a plan for a walkable village center, an affordable and sustainably built development, a community-supported bike and walking path, or a person whose career exemplifies the impact of smart growth in a community.
As part of the first annual awards, the Portland Housing Authority was presented with the Outstanding Plan Award for the Strategic Vision Plan at the 2018 Summit held on Thursday, October 11,2018, in Bangor, ME. Executive Director Mark Adelson, Development Director Jay Waterman, and Commissioner Christian MilNeil received the award on behalf of the agency.
