Thomas Valleau Scholarship Program Donations

Thank you for considering a donation to the Thomas Valleau Scholarship Program.

Each year, the scholarship program distributes over $35,000 to around a dozen subsidized housing students, of all walks of life, who are pursuing higher education. The scholarship is paid directly to the students, in recognition that tuition is just one part of the cost of higher education.

At this time, donations can be made to the scholarship fund by check and mailed or dropped off at the Portland Housing Authority Office.

Please make checks payable to:

The Portland Housing Services Corporation
and include "Scholarship" or "In Memory of Tom" in the memo line.

Checks should be mailed to:

Scholarship Program c/o Emily Mancini-Fitch
970 Baxter Boulevard, 3rd Floor
Portland, ME 04103

If your contact details are not on your check, please include your contact information so we can confirm receipt of your donation and thank you.

In Memory of Tom

The Thomas Valleau Scholarship Program is named after one of PHA's longest serving commissioners and one of the most outspoken advocates for programs and services to support PHA households. Tom was particularly interested in supporting higher education by increasing the capacity of the PHA Scholarship Program and the Board formally renamed the scholarship program in his honor in summer of 2024.

Though Tom had retired from the Board a few years ago, his legacy and influence has carried on through the staff and board members he mentored over the years of his service. His recent passing has hit many of us particularly hard. Tom's Obituary in the Portland Press Herald
