1. How do I apply?

Applications for Moderate Rehabilitation units are available by calling the Portland Housing Authority at 207-773-4753, or by coming to our office or mailing a request to:

2. How do I know if I am eligible?

Like the Housing Choice Voucher program applicants must not make more than a certain amount of income, must be citizens or legal residents of the U.S. and must pass a background check.

To actually move-in to a mod rehab unit the owner has to select you from the waiting list.

3. Can I get help right away?

Like all Section 8 programs the Portland Housing Authority (PHA) has long waiting lists.

This is not emergency housing.

It is important that you notify PHA of any change in where you live or where you get your mail so PHA and the owner can contact you when you are next on the list.

4. If I want to move can I take my help with me?

Unfortunately, no. The rental assistance received for Moderate Rehabilitation units stays with you only as long as you are in the unit and have not violated any tenant obligations under the lease or with the Statement of Family Responsibility.
